North Fork Wineries vs. The Hamptons: Which Wine Tour is Right for You?

It’s no secret that Long Island Wine Country features more than 40 wineries, where you can experience world-renowned wines, beautiful rolling vineyards, delicious food pairings and so much more.

But when planning a wine tour, one of the first questions to consider is whether you want to visit the North Fork or the South Fork (aka the Hamptons).

What’s the difference? And which is “better?” It all depends on what you’re looking for. Here are some tips to help you decide.

North Fork

The North Fork is generally the most popular option for wine tours, simply because there are more wineries. There are dozens of vineyards located on the North Fork, whereas the South Folk only has about 3. That doesn’t mean the North Fork is “better” by any means. But it does give you more variety to choose from. Each winery has a unique vibe, from laid-back to lively. So you can plan a tour that meets your specific vision.

The Hamptons / South Fork

In contrast to the winery-dense North Fork, the Hamptons has only 3 wineries. But for many people, these vineyards are can’t-miss. That’s not just because the wines are exceptional (and they really are!), but also because these wineries allow you to experience everything else that the Hamptons has to offer: upscale shopping, celebrity estates, beaches, nightlife and more.

So, Which is Right for You?

If you’re looking for the true Hamptons experience during your visit to Eastern Long Island, then consider touring the South Fork. Or, if you want more variety to choose from (and more stops on your tour), then the North Fork is the way to go.
